Dr. Purcell was born in Pottsville, Pennsylvania and raised in South Jersey, near Philadelphia. He has two grown children and four grandchildren. He is a graduate of Muhlenberg College and Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his dermatology residency program at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He served eight years on active duty as a physician in the Air Force.
Dr. Purcell returned to the east coast in 1988 to begin practicing dermatology in Allentown and Pottsville. He is certified by the American Board of Dermatology and the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology. In addition, he received a certificate of special competency in dermatopathology from the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology. Dr. Purcell’s medical articles have been published in several dermatologic journals. He has lectured at national, regional, and local medical meetings. Dr. Purcell has served as Chief of the Division of Dermatology at Lehigh Valley Health Network and Program Director of Lehigh Valley Health Network Dermatology Residency Program. He is Chairman of the Division of Dermatology at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Purcell is an active member of the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology and the American Board of Dermatology. Dr. Purcell practices general dermatology, dermatological surgery, and cosmetic skin enhancement including skin rejuvenation, botulinum toxins (such as Botox®), dermal fillers, chemical peels, and laser surgery.
