Residency

It is highly competitive to win a slot as a resident in dermatology.

Advanced Dermatology Associates, LTD’s dermatology residency program started in 1991 under the direction of Dr. Stephen Purcell.   The program has been sponsored by Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine since 1991. Beginning in 2010, the residency program has been accredited through Lehigh Valley Health Network.  Each year Advanced Dermatology’s faculty physicians choose 2 highly competitive candidates (from over 50 graduate physician applicants) to complete the 3-year residency journey for a total of 6 residents under continuous faculty physician tutelage.

Having the opportunity to be a part in the dermatological training of young resident physicians is a rewarding benefit to the practice. Advanced Dermatology’s 12 board certified dermatologists and dermatopathologists remain up to date in all areas of dermatological care.  This level of high dermatological competency is maintained and enhanced through ongoing residency instruction and complemented by monthly journal club meetings, monthly in-office clinical grand rounds, and Philadelphia Dermatological Society meetings.
