We are dermatology. It is what we know and what we do. We offer outstanding care delivered by exceptionally well trained medical professionals. We offer dermatological care to patients from all backgrounds and from all neighborhoods in our area of eastern Pennsylvania.
But what is Advanced Dermatology Associates and how did it come to be?
Advanced Dermatology Associates, LTD has been in the Lehigh Valley since 1967 and Pottsville/Schuylkill County since 1988. The origins of the practice, Dermatology Associates, formed by Dr. Alan Schragger, opened in Allentown on 13th and Hamilton Streets in 1967. Dr. Schragger (who is now retired) had Dr. Arthur Sosis join him in 1973. Another dermatology practice, Advanced Dermatology, was opened in Allentown on College Heights Boulevard by Dr. Stephen Purcell in 1988 (and shortly thereafter in Pottsville), later moving to Hamilton Boulevard. Both practices grew and added on new physicians, and in 1994 the two practices merged to become Advanced Dermatology Associates, LTD. After the merger, the practice moved to its current home and main office on Cedar Crest Boulevard in Allentown. In addition to our branch office in Pottsville, we have an office in Bethlehem.
The Skin Revitalization Center was added in the Allentown office in 2000. The Skin Revitalization Center, a division of Advanced Dermatology Associates, was created to meet the cosmetic skin needs of our patients.
The dermatopathology laboratory was opened in the Allentown office in 2006 to assist the practice in obtaining more rapid diagnoses of certain skin conditions.
Dr. Stephen Purcell began an accredited dermatology residency program in 1991 to broaden the practice’s knowledge and expertise in all aspects of dermatology. Our physicians are all core faculty in the education and teaching of the resident physicians in dermatology. To date, the residency program has graduated 46 well trained dermatologists. Those dermatologists now work in private practices and hospitals across the United States and abroad. We routinely have six resident physicians being educated in the practice and a significant number of rotating resident physicians visiting from other dermatology residency programs. On a monthly basis, Advanced Dermatology Associates has Grand Rounds as part of the residency program. Grand Rounds are an afternoon set aside for physicians within our practice, resident physicians, and dermatologists from outside the practice to see, diagnose, and treat patients with unusual or challenging dermatological disorders.
